Hello, Laffey friends,

I'm sad to tell you Debby Csiszar, wife of Al Csiszar and a founding member of the Laffey Association, has died.  Her funeral will be held Friday, Aug. 15, in Cincinnati.

Debby was as close to a plank owner as a non-sailor could be.  As a newlywed, she traveled to Maine while the Laffey was being built at the Bath shipyard.  Al found her a room - something very difficult during wartime - and they were able to see each other until the brand-new Laffey was ready to sail.  Years later, she laughed about not being prepared for East Coast snow - not even packing a pair of boots.

Debby and Al were wonderful association supporters.  They personally commissioned the "Ship That Would Not Die" painting and prints.  They arranged for Admiral Becton and the artist to sign the prints, which many of us are privileged to own.  She supported Al's involvement with the Laffey Association board of directors, and traveled with him to Patriots Point for work parties and to all the reunions.  When Al was unable to drive, she took it upon herself to make the trip to South Carolina so he could visit with his buddies. After Al died she continued to love seeing her association friends.

Her sense of fun, love of family and friends, and dedication to the Laffey will be sorely missed.

Condolences may be sent to her daughters, Jorja Kremer and Esther Kater, 2551 Buttermilk Pike, Villa Heights, KY 41017.
